NMRA Rule Changes 2008
Inc. and Open Barrels:
Rule Change:
The Governor Tour Finale and Year End Finals will run the same as the races throughout the year with the exception that the added money will be equal. Their will not be a split of added money.
New Rule:
All barrel racers must use the same entry gate to start their run. ie: If the arena has both sides and center gates, one gate is to be specified for all entrants. Judges will determine the gate to enter and exit.
Steer Wrestling:
New Rule:
No bulls or heifers will be allowed in the steer wrestling. Steers only.
Bareback Riding:

Glove will be plain with no flaps, rolls, wedges, welds, or gimmicks.

No Fiberglass or metal in rigging or handhold (Delete the word rigging)
Flat-headed rivets are allowed to secure handhold.
Calf Roping/Incentive Calf Roping:
New Rule:
Jerk Down Rule: Contestants will be fined $100 for the infraction. Jerk down will be defined as over backwards with the calf landing on his back or head with all four feet in the air.

New Rule:
2 Entry Option: At rodeos with less than 15 single entries the rodeo becomes optioned for two entries. Ropers cannot be entered in the same performance but in separate performances or a performance and a slack. Incentive calf ropers can only enter once in the incentive and once in the open. All monies won will count toward event points, but only highest amount won will be counted toward the all around award.

Judging Coordinator:
New Rule:
If the judging coordinator does not get elected to go to the NMRA finals, then he will have the option of taking the first paid position, ie: chute boss, arena director, etc.
New Rule:
Within 15 days after the judging seminar the coordinator will mail or fax to each stock contractor the list for their approval. The contractor will then send the list back with the judges they will use.
Stock Contractors:
New Rule:
All Directors must have stock lists for the finals to Stock Contractors by Sept. 10th.
New Rule:
All approved NMRA stock contractors shall have a minimum of two NMRA approved 1st rodeos to be eligible to bring stock to the NMRA Finals Rodeo.

There shall be no subcontracting in the rough stock events at the NMRA Finals and subcontractors are not eligible for year end awards.

Card-carrying subcontractors may have stock at the NMRA Finals, however, it must have been used at NMRA rodeos during the season after this subcontractor purchased their NMRA membership card. There shall be no subcontracting at the membership drive rodeo.
New Rule:
It will be the stock contractor’s discretion to enter the rough stock twice at any NMRA rodeo. The contractor must make the director aware of their decision.
Secretary:
New:
When a medical or non-member turns out at a rodeo the secretary can replace them with a person at the rodeo that wants to enter. If that contestant is a current NMRA member money won in that rodeo will not count for year end points.
New:
The CES has the authority to hire NMRA secretaries.
All Membership/in general rules:
Addition:
Long sleeve shirts are defined as long sleeve western attire, with collars and either button up or snaps.
Addition:
Any person in the rodeo arena one-half hour before a performance or slack will be in full western attire. This includes cowboy hats, boots, and long sleeve western shirts.

All entry fees in all events will be $75.

Stock charge at all rodeos will be $15.

All contestants must be set and ready to compete within one minute after name is called unless it is beyond their control (ie: stock not being ready)

RULE CHANGES 2009
Calf Roping/Incentive Calf Roping:

Incentive calf roping and open calf roping will be one event. INC CR will be eligible to win money in the open CR. 20% of incentive pot will go to the open CR. 20% of added money goes into the INC CR.

One half way through the NMRA season, or at a date determined by the directors, if an INC CR makes money two times in the open CR he will automatically be moved to an open roper.
Team Roping/Incentive Team Roping:
Team roping and incentive team roping will be one event, enter 3 times (two times open, one time incentive or vice versa) Inc. Team Ropers will be eligible to win money in both the open and the incentive. 20% of added money from open will go to incentive and 20% of the incentive pot will go to the open, unless the committee specifies added money designation.
The buckles an prizes given to the open team roping will be given to the incentive team roping winners unless buckles and prizes are given to both or if the committee specifies otherwise.

Central office/Director will verify handicap classification with the USTRC on or about June 15th and Sept. 15
Add: The contestant will also forfeit his/her entry fee for himself and team roping partner.
Any NMRA member may enter the Team Roping at the NMRA finals. but the TR will be the last event contested during the slack.
All Team Ropers must compete at two NMRA first sanction rodeos to be eligible to enter the NMRA finals.
Entries/Stock Charge
The stock charge in all events will be $20.
Entry fees will be a minimum $100 in all events except barrel race. All fees for judges, timers, CES, etc. will be subtracted from the entry fees.

General Rule:
The “One Minute Rule” – A contestant must be ready to compete within one minute of his/her third call – add: at judge’s discretion.
A contestant must be a member before entering the NMRA finals.
Deliberate cheating in any event will result in the contestant being disqualified from the rodeo, forfeiting any winnings and entry fee. If the contestant is in the team roping, the contestant’s partner also forfeits any winnings and entry fee.
